Basant Panchami Celebrations Held with Grandeur at Saraswati Temple, KGMU Lucknow

Lucknow: On the auspicious occasion of Basant Panchami, an elaborate and culturally rich celebration was organised at the Saraswati Temple Complex (Maa Sharadalaya) located within King George’s Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow. The event marked a joyous confluence of devotion, art, culture, and academic spirit, drawing participation from students, faculty members, and distinguished guests.

The celebration featured ritual worship of Goddess Saraswati, along with Yagya and Havan, symbolising the reverence for knowledge, wisdom, and learning. Adding to the spiritual ambience, a fine arts exhibition was organised, while the entire temple courtyard was adorned with vibrant floral rangoli, creating a visually grand and historically resonant atmosphere.

The programme was graced by Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Brajesh Pathak, who also holds the portfolios of Medical Education, Health, Family Welfare, and Maternal & Child Welfare, as the Chief Guest. He visited the venue, reviewed the arrangements, and expressed heartfelt appreciation for the event organized. Addressing students and attendees, he extended his blessings and conveyed his best wishes, praising KGMU for nurturing cultural and spiritual values alongside medical education.

The event was further honoured by the presence of Uttar Pradesh Tourism and Culture Minister,  Jaiveer Singh, who attended as a Special Guest. Commending the organisers, he congratulated the KGMU fraternity and said that such cultural programmes should be organised in the future with even greater splendour and dignity, as they play a vital role in preserving Indian traditions.

Both dignitaries were formally welcomed and felicitated by the Vice-Chancellor of KGMU. During their visit, the guests offered prayers and received Prasad at the Saraswati Temple, also paying obeisance at the shrine of Lord Dhanvantari, followed by a tour of the temple premises.

Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor of KGMU highlighted that Basant Panchami is a festival symbolising knowledge, art, creativity, and new consciousness. She urged members of the KGMU family to imbibe the ideals of Goddess Saraswati and perform their duties in the fields of education, healthcare, and service with dedication, harmony, and compassion. She emphasized strengthening the institution’s academic, cultural, and humanitarian traditions through collective commitment.

The Basant Panchami celebrations at KGMU have been observed as a continuing annual tradition, growing more vibrant and inclusive with each passing year. This year’s event stood out for its scale, spiritual depth, and cultural richness, reinforcing KGMU’s role as a centre of holistic learning that blends medical excellence with India’s timeless cultural heritage.
